Women Cancel European Tour

WomenUnfortunately, Women will be canceling their European tour which was planned to start later this month. Here’s the official statement from their manager, Ian Russell:

“With a heavy heart, we regret to say that the band Women is exhausted and are in need of a break from touring. They have experienced a lot of stress recently, and this culminated in a disastrous public conflict on Friday. Band members have been suffering from poor health, and are in near-exhaustion; as of today, all upcoming shows have been cancelled.

We feel that it’s necessary to emphasize that this is a very difficult time for the band, and is not a trivial decision for a group that has spent as much time touring as they have. The band is a close-knit group of friends that have known each other since elementary school, and the personal health of these individuals forces this decision.

The band would appreciate some privacy as they sort things out and recover.”

It’s definitely a bummer that the tour is off but it was, as Ian mentioned, a very tough decision to make. Right now personal health and well being is most important and everyone at Jagjaguwar is hoping that’s attainable.

womenWonderful news, friends! The guys are currently on tour in Europe where they stopped by the BBC studios to record a session with Mark Riley. They’ll be hitting the US with friends DD/MM/YYYY and Manchild later this month. Check out the full list of dates below: Read the rest of this entry »

Pre-Order Women’s “Public Strain” To Get A Bonus 7″

Service Animal b/w Grey Skies

That’s right, folks. When you pre-order Women’s stellar new record, “Public Strain,” you’ll get a limited edition 7″ that includes two brand new, non-album, tracks. Here’s a little more info on the songs:

Both tracks on this limited 7″ deliver additional insight into the collision of style that informs Women’s complex new album. “Grey Skies,” a pristine, 1950’s slow dance weeper is a throwback to an era when musical composition wasn’t entirely hinged-upon irony. “Service Animal” seamlessly bounces upon charmingly polarized guitar phrases and 60’s inspired melody.”

Above is a picture of the beaut. You can snag your own copy by pre-ordering HERE.

Women Announce Second Album: Public Strain

Public StrainIt’s been just under 2 years since the self titled debut release from these Canadian dudes. They were hard at work in that time, though. Matt toured China with Marnie Stern. Mike released a record on St. Ives with his band Friendo. And, as Women, they played over 200 shows around the world. Somewhere in between all of that, they found time to write and record a new record. That record is titled: Public Strain Read the rest of this entry »

WOMEN Tour With Abe Vigoda, Crystal Stilts And Chad Van Gaalen

This past fall we fell for the music made by the men from Calgary called WOMEN despite their inevitably ungoogleable band name. Their great pop sensibility channeled through a rough and ready experimental lo-fi sound leaves enough surprises that we continually find it lodged in nooks and crannies in my head. Like a teenage boy, we just can’t seem to get WOMEN off our collective mind! Now you too will have a chance to hear what the buzz is all about. On March 8 WOMEN embark on a coast to coast tour of the United States including three days at South By Southwest, and shows with Crystal Stilts, Abe Vigoda, and the producer of their self-titled debut album, Mr. Chad Van Gaalen. Come hear what the glorious ruckus is all about.
