Birds of a Feather, Lia Ices and British born artist Tom Jean Webb (aka “Birdman”) have always shared a vested interest in weaving beautiful stories. It’s only fitting that the two artists have come together with Nowness to create a stunning video for Lia’s “Creature”, off of her recent Ices. The video, brought to life by animator Danny Burke, follows a man and woman creature as they move toward one another, their journey embodying the boundless search for love that inspired the song. Watch the video above or on Nowness alongside an exclusive interview with Lia Ices.
In addition, Lia will be performing at NXNE this summer in Toronto. Click here for more information.
From the director: “It is meant to represent the vacuum of space by impressing upon inter-dimensional unfolding, immaterial objects, and time-driven reverberation of events. The virtual space allows for most 3D objects to trail in time – based on the directions one moves. You can construct & paint the objects in space to stretch them in any direction, to create infinitely vast compositional spaces.”

Today Volcano Choir shares a video for “Tiderays” off of 2013’s Repave. The video, created as part of the 551 Project and directed by Kyle Buckley & Andi Woodward, features the Milwaukee Ballet in a beautifully simple video allowing the dancers to take the shape of the song and ocean reminiscent of Repave‘s album cover. Also today, VC shares a new live date on November 30th at Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee.
Back in June we announced the co-release of Sinoia Caves‘ soundtrack to Panos Cosmatos‘ 2012 film, Beyond The Black Rainbow, on September 2nd with Death Waltz Records in Europe. This supposed “lost film” from the 1980s is inspired by obscure sci-fi movies and classic dystopian fiction. Watch the trailer for the movie here. You already heard the track “Forever Dilating Eye” and today Wondering Sound interviewed Jeremy Schmidt of Sinoia Caves about composing the soundtrack and also debuted a new video for the track featuring additional footage from Panos’ film. Read the interview and then watch the video above or on our YouTube channel.
The album will be available physically this fall in the United States including digitally world-wide on Jagjaguwar and physically in Europe in partnership with Death Waltz Records. Vinyl collectors should know the deluxe bundle from us includes clear vinyl and beautiful, glossy Stoughton jackets and a DVD of Beyond The Black Rainbow. That bundle is now available for pre-order via SC Distribution. The album is also available for pre-order on iTunes, Amazon, and your local indie record store.
Sinoia Caves is the ongoing project of Jeremy Schmidt, member of psych-rock pioneers and Jagjaguwar band Black Mountain.
