Volcano Choir’s First US Tour Dates

When Volcano Choir released Unmap on Jagjaguwar in 2009, it wasn’t clear if the band would ever perform its songs on stage. Then, late last year, Volcano Choir and Collections of Colonies of Bees performed a short and extremely successful Japanese tour. Contrarede’s live footage of these performances blew our minds (watch the video for “Island, IS” above).

Volcano Choir Comes To Life – Rehearses in Eau Claire for Japan Tour

Some of the questions raised when we announced the existence of Volcano Choir were “When are they going to tour?” and “How will they re-create this live?” The answers to those are 1) They will tour only in Japan, of course, and 2) With lots of practice. We received two videos of Volcano Choir rehearsal, and I’ll be damned if I don’t have a passport. The evolution of “Still” is particularly great.

For those of you who aren’t in Japan, don’t cry! Just enjoy the videos we have, and try not to drown your sorrows in Four Lokos this weekend. If you DO live in Japan, go buy these men your finest Japanese beverages.

VOLCANO CHOIR’S Unmap hits record store shelves today. The album marks the debut full-length from Volcano Choir, the collaboration between Collections of Colonies of Bees and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Pick up Unmap in CD or LP format at your local record shop or order HERE.
