Happy Release Day Richard Youngs! Stream Amplifying Host All This Week On Spinner

Today marks the release of Richard Youngs’ eleventh Jagjaguwar release Amplifying Host. Over his long career we have gotten to know Youngs’ music intimately, yet he still never ceases to surprise us. As Dusted Magazine puts it Youngs is “one of the few modern songwriters to actively challenge his own preconceptions of his art.”

All this week you can stream Amplifying Host at Spinner.com RIGHT HERE.

Hear what Spin Magazine says evokes “the moonlit tumbleweed vistas of an acid Western.” The Onion calls “Amplifying Host‘s gaunt improvisation and gauzy textures orbit atonality even as they sketch the silhouette of a haunted, dust-blown folk.” And Tiny Mix Tapes in a particularly beautiful and personal review says “Youngs’ music sounds broken here, but as with Jandek’s utterly unique take on rock ‘n’ roll its brokeness creates a sound that is thrillingly expressive in its difficulty.”

Parts & Labor Cover Kanye West’s “Runaway” Tour Japan in July

Parts & Labor recently participated in The Onion’s Undercover series going for gold and putting together an amazing cover of Kanye West’s “Runaway” which you can watch HERE. When asked why they covered Kanye P&L’s Dan Friel responds “We found your list pretty challenging… So in the end we just decided to do the one that seemed the most difficult and ridiculous.” Well Parts & Labor nails it, adding their own signature squall and hard rocking aesthetic to Kanye’s tour-de-force.

In July Parts & Labor will make their first excursion to Japan for a week of shows (tour dates after the jump). P&L has released a number of their albums through Moorworks in Japan, and for the release of their 2008 album Receivers they recorded a version of the lead single “Nowheres Nigh” in Japanese, renaming it “Dokonimonai” check it out below. You can also catch Parts & Labor later this month at the Sled Island Festival in Calgary.
