Cool Beans: Foxygen Comic Strip for Your Viewing Pleasure

We’ll let the comic do the talking. Well, most of it. Here’s the low down. We came across BOOOOOOOM’s recent feature on awesome Chicago-based artist Krystal DiFronzo earlier this summer. A perfect pairing for Foxygen? We think so. You know the drill. Business as usual and walla, today, she shares her first rad comic strip based on Foxy’s “Abandon My Toys.” It’s from their Take The Kids Off Broadway mini-album.

Check out Abandon My Toys: the comic –> HERE.

Catch Foxygen live this Saturday at Echo Park Rising! Presented by 98.7fm – LA’s Rock Alternative, it’s a community party featuring local artists, musicians, food and FUN. Best part? It’s free! No excuse not to go. Check out the FB event for more details.

RRRRRRELEASE DAY! Foxygen’s Debut Release Out in the Big World

Happy release day to Foxygen, whose debut Jagjaguwar release, Take the Kids Off Broadway, is available in-stores, online and from Sam and Rado at one of their many upcoming shows. Foxy is currently touring with La Sera and Moonface. See those dates at the bottom of the post.

For those who don’t know, Foxygen is Jagjaguwar’s newest and youngest signee. Don’t let their age deter you, they bring something pretty incredible to their music. Pitchfork’s Steven Hyden says the mini-album “transforms familiar ingredients into unpredictable, even unwieldy music” and “suggests that Foxygen have found a patch of untamed wilderness in the midst of otherwise well-trod territory. Offering neither clarity nor order, but very much the opposite, Foxygen see exciting possibilities in these disjointed times.” Read the rest of the Pitchfork review HERE.

Take the Kids Off Broadway is available on vinyl or as a digital download. You can purchase the record from SC Distribution. Stream “Waitin 4 U” and “Make It Known” below. Read the rest of this entry »

Sam and Rado release their mini-album, Take The Kids Off Broadway, July 24. Give it a preview; listen to “Waitin 4 U” and “Make It Known.” Like what you hear? Pre-order HERE.

“The bursts and jaunts that erupt across the Take The Kids Off Broadway ep are economical, yet bombastic. Controlled chaos, there’s an order to the world of Foxygen. With influences that reference some of the Kinks oddest moments to Jonathan Richman and the aural decadence of one-time disco troubadour Maxine Nightingale, the ep’s flow is loose, yet one that never feels randomly slapped together from darts thrown at torn out pages of a diary.” Aquarium Drunkard

Say Hello to FOXYGEN – Jagjaguwar’s Newest Signing, Pre-order EP

We are over the moon to introduce the newest member of the Jagjaguwar family, FOXYGEN. The bi-coastal songwriting duo is comprised of Sam France (vocals, Olympia, Wash., 22 years old) and Jonathan Rado (guitar/keyboards, NYC, 22). They are the raw, de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets, Bowie, etc. that a whole mess of young people desperately need. They create a sometimes-impressionistic, sometimes-hyper-real portrait of sounds from specific places and times. Yet, it never comes across as anything but absolutely modern music.

They bring the manic, freewheeling qualities of an artist like Ariel Pink to those aforementioned influences to make for one of the most refreshing listens of the year. They are the real deal and total savants. Their albums are love letters to vinyl collections.

Foxygen’s debut release, Take The Kids Off Broadway EP, is out July 24th. Pre-order the EP now at SC Distribution and receive an instant gratification download of the ENTIRE EP two months before it’s released!

The first single premiered on The A.V. Club earlier today! Listen and download “Make It Known” below.
