WATCH // Dinosaur Jr. Premieres “Pierce The Morning Rain” Video

What happens when you combine American suburbia, one heck of a stereo system and Henry Rollins? An awesome Dinosaur Jr. music video. Directed by Emmy-winny comedy writer and director Scott Jacobson (Bob’s Burgers, Saturday Night Live), “Pierce the Morning Rain” stars actor James Urbaniak (Homeland, The Venture Brothers) and comedian Maria Bamford as your average, middle-aged couple whose lives are transformed by playing Dinosaur Jr. as loudly as technology allows. You can watch the video at SPIN or above.

Here’s a welcomed sight! It’s a photo (courtesy of Ray Gordon) of J Mascis and Carrie Brownstein hanging out. Just a little preparation for the new Portlandia episode airing on Friday, January 25th.

WATCH// Dinosaur Jr. Live on KEXP at MusicfestNW, SPIN Visits the Mascis Family Home

Dinosaur Jr. recently stopped by Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge for a rousing performance! Twas all for Musicfest NW. Those of us who weren’t able to make it out for the festival will be happy to learn KEXP was there and caught it all on video! Watch J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph in their all songs requested set above!

For more Dinosaur Jr., head to SPIN! David Bevan just posted DINOSAUR JR.: REDISCOVERING THE GNARL – a feature of epic proportions! We’re talking seven whole pages + photos, created after Bevan spent some time at the Mascis family home earlier this year.

Dinosaur Jr. is on tour now! See all their dates HERE.

READ // Spin Steps into the Studio with UMO

Last week we welcomed our newest signee, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, to the Jagjaguwar family. With a brand new album in the works, SPIN stepped into the studio with the UMO’s main man for a look at what’s to come. It’s the follow-up to UMO’s self-titled, debut release. Ruban gives insight to the new record’s origin: the road.

“There are a lot of weird shit that starts going through your head when you don’t get enough sleep, when you start indulging in stuff. There are a lot of weird ideas in there that, when I actually got my head together afterward, I was shocked: I didn’t realize how dark some of the lyrics had become.”

After writing the album, Ruban returned to his new home of Portland to begin recording before heading back out on the road with Grizzly Bear. “It was just me, locked up, sleeping during the day and making the record at night,” he shares.

Bon Iver Releases Video for “Calgary” Win a Spot on the Fallon Band Bench

Today Bon Iver released a music video for the first single, “Calgary.” It was written by Justin Vernon and filmed at April Base Studios in Fall Creek, WI, directed by Andre Durand and Dan Huiting and produced by Daniel Cummings and Picture Machine Productions. I stopped watching America’s Next Top Model a few years ago, but the woman in the video (Raina Hein) was one of the two finalists in Cycle 14. There is a picture of her spooning the magnificent dog who lives at April Base, Gordon, on her website. Gordon should have a blog. Moving on…

Bon Iver is playing two television shows with the full 9-piece band next week. Monday, June 20th, is a performance on The Colbert Report and Tuesday the 21st (release day!!!) is Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

The Fallon show is offering Bon Iver fans a chance to be close to the performance. If you click on the link below you will be directed to enter the “Band Bench” contest where you win seats on the band benches that surround the stage during the performance. Click here and enter the band code “BIV” in your entry.

One last thing: yesterday I mentioned that Bon Iver was on the cover of the July issue of SPIN. Today that article is now available to read online. Go! Read it!
