LISTEN // “Take Care Of Me” From Briana Marela’s ‘All Around Us,’ Tour Dates With Jenny Hval

Briana Marela is surrounded, you soon realize, by a small arsenal of microphone, amps, pedals, micro synth, and mixer, all of which fits on the table before her . . . she proceeds to perform a full set of songs off her forthcoming album, All Around Us (Jagjaguwar), bright reverberating melodies over ethereal, chorus-y soundscapes. Listening, it’s easy to imagine you’re in Scandinavia, too.VOGUE

[‘Surrender’] manages to evoke both the majesty and the more playful sylvan spirit of each of this record’s sonic homes.NPR Music’s All Songs Considered

I want to be able to hear a beautiful, twinkly, glitchy, lush post-Björk song and not swoon, but I swoon. Briana Marela, who actually went to Iceland to record this song and the rest of her upcoming debut with Sigur Rós’s producer, does it better than most.Vulture 10 Best New Songs of the Week

one of the year’s most enjoyably ethereal efforts . . . a lovely collection of shuffling ballads and near-choral ambience.SPIN Five Artists to Watch in June 2015

Seattle-based Briana Marela will soon release her transfixing debut album for Jagjaguwar, All Around Us. The album, produced and recorded by Alex Somers (Sigur Ros) in Reykjavic and featuring strings by Amiina, feels mysterious at first, but reveals itself to be a record of remarkable honesty, and of direct, deeply felt emotions. Marela invites the listener in with her sweet, understanding voice and never shies away from showing her true emotions. In creating this album, she drew inspiration from the people around her – friends and loved ones — and the emotions they evoke: the warmth of affection; the weightlessness of joy; the grounded, anchored feeling of love. These ideas are all presented via All Around Us second single, the nurturing and positive “Take Care Of Me.”

Briana Marela’ All Around Us is out August 21st and available for pre-order now. She’ll tour North America supporting Jenny Hval this summer. All dates are below, click here for more info and tickets.

SESSION / Moonface Releases Paper Bag Session Of “Love the House You’re In”, Announces North American Tour Dates

For Moonface‘s latest release, Spencer Krug has stripped down his sound to just a piano and his voice, leaving the effects, overdubs, and electronic elements out. The new album, Julia with Blue Jeans On, is Krug’s self-described love record and displays an angle of Spencer’s music not heard before.

Paper Bag Records filmed a simply stunning video of the new song “Love The House You’re In” live for their Sessions series. Get a sense of seeing Spencer live by watching the session above or on YouTube here.

A few weeks ago we premiered the first song stream from the new album, “Everyone is Noah, Everyone is the Ark”, a slow building warning of flood waters ahead. Click HERE to listen to the song on our Soundcloud.
