Justin Vernon and S. Carey in a Jagjaguwar and 4AD Session

Straying from the expected, Justin Vernon and S. Carey give us a breathtaking 4AD and Jagjaguwar session. We’ve been accustomed to seeing Bon Iver as a full, seven-plus member band as of late, but now we get the two in an incredibly intimate and up-close setting. Once a church, Air Studio’s Lyndurst Hall plays home to the session and it proves to be fitting in both atmosphere and aesthetics. Justin and Sean are on piano, facing each other for a five-song performance of choice songs that have led us to be endlessly captured and emotionally evoked. “Rather than layer the sound as on ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’, the focus is on paring back, in part evoking the minimalist approach of contemporary classical music, while remaining true enough to the source material to retain those elements characteristic of Bon Iver.” It’s a must see. S. Carey Part of New Talk Talk Book

S. Carey recently contributed to a new book about  Talk Talk. Including handwritten lyrics and never-seen-before photos, Spirt of Talk Talk delves into the band’s expansive collection of album art and music. A good portion of the book is dedicated to those inspired by the band in some way. Carey is no stranger when it comes to Talk Talk; you can see their influence laced through his debut album, All We Grow, as well as his much talked about cover of “I Believe in You” during shows with Bon Iver. Preview the book HERE.

S. Carey and Peter Wolf Crier Play Next Week at FRZN Fest

Sean Carey has been mighty busy touring every which way with Bon Iver, but he’s taking a pause to play a set at this year’s FRZN Fest in Madison, WI. Peter Wolf Crier will also be playing the festival, coming off the heels of some heavy touring toward the end of 2011 and the release of their last album, Garden of Arms. Catch both of these wonderful artists and more at the festival on Sat, Jan 14. They’ll be playing at 8pm at the High Noon Saloon (701 E. Washington Ave. Madison, WI). The show is only $12 (or $15-20 if you want to stick around for both nights of the festival).

Multiple Jagjaguwar Artists Featured on Kathleen Edwards’ Upcoming Album, Voyageur

Kathleen Edwards album Voyageur, the much anticipated follow-up to 2008′s Asking for Flowers, is set for release January 17. In addition to the fact that the album is being co-produced by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, we were thrilled to find out that a number of our other artists are appearing on it as well.

Listeners can look forward to musical stylings from Sean Carey (S. Carey, Bon Iver), Brian Moen (Peter Wolf Crier) and Vernon, who also contributed backing vocals, guitar, piano, organ, bass, banjo and xylophone.

While the rest of America was at BBQ’s and pool parties this weekend, the lucky folks at Sasquatch Music Festival were hanging with some of Minneapolis’ finest. S. Carey and Gayngs both played at the festival and NPR was there to document their sets. Stream the concerts below.
