Say Hello to FOXYGEN – Jagjaguwar’s Newest Signing, Pre-order EP

We are over the moon to introduce the newest member of the Jagjaguwar family, FOXYGEN. The bi-coastal songwriting duo is comprised of Sam France (vocals, Olympia, Wash., 22 years old) and Jonathan Rado (guitar/keyboards, NYC, 22). They are the raw, de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets, Bowie, etc. that a whole mess of young people desperately need. They create a sometimes-impressionistic, sometimes-hyper-real portrait of sounds from specific places and times. Yet, it never comes across as anything but absolutely modern music.

They bring the manic, freewheeling qualities of an artist like Ariel Pink to those aforementioned influences to make for one of the most refreshing listens of the year. They are the real deal and total savants. Their albums are love letters to vinyl collections.

Foxygen’s debut release, Take The Kids Off Broadway EP, is out July 24th. Pre-order the EP now at SC Distribution and receive an instant gratification download of the ENTIRE EP two months before it’s released!

The first single premiered on The A.V. Club earlier today! Listen and download “Make It Known” below.

Welcome Sharon Van Etten!

Sharon Van Etten by Dusdin Condren

We are so enormously excited and proud to welcome Sharon Van Etten to the Jagjaguwar roster.

With a voice known for its stark power and subtle refinement, Sharon Van Etten has a mastery for writing songs with direct honesty and feeling. Over the course of releasing two full-length albums celebrated by fans and critics, alike – Because I Was In Love (Language of Stone; 2009) and epic (Ba Da Bing; 2010), Sharon has affected a multitude of hearts and minds over the past couple of years.  Jagjaguwar will be releasing Sharon’s third full-length in early 2012.

Earlier this year Sharon collaborated with Justin Vernon and Megafaun for Sounds of the South and performed with them as a part of the National’s Music NOW festival in Cincinnati. Watch one of their performances below.

Peter Wolf Crier Signs To Jagjaguwar

interbe-cover

Jagjaguwar is proud to announce the signing of Peter Wolf Crier. Stay tuned for the  release of their album Inter-Be on May 25 in the U.S. and June 7 in the U.K.

Inter-Be is the debut album by PETER WOLF CRIER, the Minneapolis-based duo of Peter Pisano and Brian Moen. The album was born on a single summer night when Pisano felt a torrent of creativity after what had felt, to him, like an interminably long dry spell. He shared the songs with Moen, and over the months that followed, at Moen’s home, these rough-hewed tunes became what they are now: a confident collection of songs, but deceptive in that their very guts still reflect the thoughts of a man in transition.

You know that feeling of being blindsided after listening to a band you’ve never heard before? When it scratches an itch you didn’t even know you had? Well, we certainly do.
