ALBUM RELEASE // Angel Olsen ‘Burn Your Fire For No Witness” Out Now, New European Dates Added In May

Angel Olsen is no stranger to listeners who caught her vibrant and expressive voice in her debut EP Strange Cacti or later on Half Way Home, where her sound expanded and her lyrics cut deeper.

Today, Angel’s debut album on Jagjaguwar, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, is out worldwide.

On the new album, Pitchfork named it Best New Music yesterday, in the UK the album received rave reviews including four stars in The Observer, and NPR’s Bob Boilen named it his “Album of the Week” this week on All Songs Considered writing, “I’ve been living with this music for a bit now. It’s my friend, my comfort; it shakes me, saddens me and lifts me”.

With BYFFNW, Angel further explores a familiar sound, but only widens her vocal range to new expressive heights. She captures both bravery and vulnerability in her war cries bringing the listener closer if they aren’t already sucked into Angel’s crackling fire gaze. Her new album, produced by John Congleton, stokes the fire and aggravates the flames inside of Angel releasing an energy and voice not heard before.

Get a sense of this new sound by listening to a few tracks from the album above or watching her newest video for “Hi-Five” directed by Zia Anger on YouTube, here.

Burn Your Fire for No Witness is available now from your local record store, SC Distribution, Amazon, or on iTunes.

See Angel Olsen on tour starting tonight in Charlottesville at The Southern with all dates listed below.

WATCH // S. Carey Shares “Fire-scene” Video Via FILTER Premiere, Announces New EU Tour Dates

Via FILTER Premiere, S. Carey shares the first video from his new full length album Range of Light out April 1st, 2014 (March 31 in UK).

Filmed mostly in and around Spokane, Washington, the video for “Fire-scene” by director Joe Baughman looks to further intoxicate the mind with the intended imagery already created by S. Carey in the song. We see virtually untouched snow covered landscapes and sprawling mountains, the hustle of workers in the industrial backdrop of Spokane, and more to compliment S. Carey’s ethereal music. Watch the video above our on our YouTube channel here.

Some thoughts on the video from the director:

“Working with S. Carey to conceptualize how “Fire-scene” would look as a visible medium was one of the least difficult things I’ve done. The carefully crafted song is, with audio alone, full of magnificent images. My task was to take the images that were right in front of me and transfer them into something anybody with sight could view.

The most important aspect of this video is the location: Eastern Washington, specifically Spokane, WA and its surrounding area. I also filmed some of it in Indiana (where I’m from).

Even though there were innumerable possibilities at the editing table, it seemed to piece itself together very nicely. The video, without spoiling the freedom of interpretation, has so many natural juxtapositions of tone, color, shape, and space that I was easily able to make it suggest what I wanted it to suggest and more. The beauty of a song and video like “Fire-scene” is that the interpretations are endless and heavily reliant upon the viewer’s own thoughts and experience, thus exceeding the suggestions of the musician and the director”

Range of Light is now available for pre-order via iTunes, and comes with an instant-grat download of “Fire-scene.” A pre-order with instant-grat is also available through SC Distribution, in addition to a Range of Light deluxe package, which includes limited-edition marble vinyl and a limited-edition “Fire-scene” 7″, featuring exclusive b-side “Chrysalis.” Others can also find the new album available via Amazon and your local record store.
