ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Foxygen Announces New Album ‘…And Star Power’ Out 10/14, Shares “How Can You Really” Video Dir. By Grant Singer, On Tour Now

From the band -

Foxygen have joined Star Power. It is a punk band, and you can be in it, too. Star Power is the radio station that you can hear only if you believe. A gaggle of guest stars. Roman-numeraled musical suites. Vocals recorded on a shoddy tape machine at The Beverly Hills Hotel and Chateau Marmont. A svelte 82-minute run time of psych-ward folk, cartoon fantasia, soft-rock indulgences, D&D doomrock and paranoid bathroom rompers. A cinematic auditory adventure for speedy freaks, skull krunchers, abductees and misfits. We’re all stars of the scene.

Ladies & Gentleman, Foxygen is back with their third release …And Star Power, out Oct. 14th (13th in Europe) via Jagjaguwar. The followup to We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic is a 24-song epic journey that picks up right where members Sam France and Jonathan Rado left off. Catch the video for the debut single “How Can You Really“, starring France as he harnesses the power of rock-gods before him. Bonus points for those who spot the cameos from members of Gardens & Villa and Dub Thompson, the latter supporting Foxygen on their upcoming North American tour. Directed by Grant Singer, watch the video above or on Youtube / Vevo.

WATCH // V Magazine Debuts Sharon Van Etten “Our Love” Video Dir. By Karen Collins

Are We There debuted a little under two months ago and since then Sharon Van Etten has played sold out shows across the US and Europe. Before Sharon continues her tour through North America, V Magazine premiered a very intimate and beautiful video from Karen Collins today. You can watch the video above or here on YouTube / Vevo.

On the video, director Collins wrote, “On set I felt like a privileged witness to something very personal. For greater intimacy, she closes her eyes for the most part of the video, but Sharon has the most beautiful eyes in the world, so there was some sadness in doing this. Luckily, she opens them in the end.”

If you haven’t already, get the new album via SC Distribution, Amazon, iTunes, and your local record store.

WATCH // Watch The Video For Pink Mountaintops “Second Summer Of Love” Directed By Brook Linder

First of all, we would like to congratulate Pink Mountaintops on Get Back being featured on this year’s Polaris Music Prize long list. Secondly, we are VERY excited to present a kick-ass video for “Second Summer Of Love”, off their most recent album Get Back. The new video directed by Brook Linder debuted at Entertainment Weekly today and features a beautiful montage of youthful recklessness including skateboards on fire, bashing mailboxes, and more. Watch the video above or here on YouTube / Vevo.

On the video, director Linder said,
“We started with this insane image: looking at a flaming kick flip from an impossible angle, and worked backwards from there. Much of the focus was just creating a collage of textures grabbed from rolling around with this skate crew in the Midwest. The song is totally Stephen’s anthem for a very particular time and place – we took those images and twisted them out into a montage of youthful energy, the good and the bad.”

If you haven’t already, pick up Get Back via iTunes, SC Distribution, Amazon, and your local record store.

ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Lia Ices Shares “Thousand Eyes” Lyric Video, New Album ‘Ices’ Out 9/16

Very happy to welcome back Lia Ices with the announcement of her new album Ices out on September 16th on Jagjaguwar. Following up 2011’s acclaimed Grown Unknown, the new album was produced by Benny Sagittarius [production team of Lia and her brother Eliot] and support from Clams Casino on several tracks. You can experience the first single “Thousand Eyes,” off the new album via an enthralling video directed by Dougal Henken that features artwork by Hugo Barros. Watch the “Thousand Eyes” video above or here on YouTube.

Pre-order the new album via iTunes, Amazon, Jagjaguwar, and your local record.

On making the new album, Lia explains,

“Each song on the record became a collage of times, places, and people. Most of them started in the Hudson Valley, where Eliot and I wrote and recorded vocals, guitars, synths, and beat ideas.

“We’d send those first incarnations to Clams Casino in New Jersey and then we’d meet up in Brooklyn to arrange the new parts together. We worked in the penthouse of the Wythe Hotel – a floating glass box. We’d set up our computer, mixing speakers, midi keyboards, and all our weird gear, plus thai food and red wine. We’d bring up one of our demos and we’d sit behind the midi keyboard and sift through sounds and ideas and beats and find new things together.

“After those Wythe Sessions (in Brooklyn) we took different tracks to Woodstock and Los Angeles to layer in live drums and percussion, and I went to Atlanta to record final vocals. For the first time, Lia Ices felt like an inclusive project with its own identity, not just a name.”
