Peter Wolf Crier Perform Intimate Radio Session for WGTB

P1030014.JPG

Last week when Peter Wolf Crier toured through Washington DC they had time to stop by WGTB, Georgetown University’s radio station and play a few songs. Peter Wolf Crier played “For Now,” “Crutch and Cane,” “Saturday Night,” and “Untitled 101″ in a stripped down and more restrained fashion. As you listen to these live versions the simple beauty and intimacy of these songs really unfold. On the really good days in this biz real magic happens, and this session is a good example of just that. You can streampeter-wolf-crier-crutch-and-cane all four songs from the session over at WGTB’s blog.

The new single from Wilderness Heart by Black Mountain

September 14th, 2010

Black Mountain’s third LP, Wilderness Heart, was built on the west coast of America, in part at London Bridge Studios in Seattle with producer Randall Dunn (Boris, Sunn O))), Kinski) and predominantly in Hollywood at Sunset Sound with producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, LCD Soundsystem).

Each studio’s environs and producer had a great impact on what was recorded there – the LA sessions having a free and summery vibe and the ones in Seattle a chillier, more claustrophic feeling.

The new record is packed with succinct rock songs that pulse and pound with startling precision: it pummels you, you ask for more. Wilderness Heart is arguably Black Mountain’s tightest, most concentrated outing, but there’s still plenty of raw rock energy at work. It’s their most metal and most folk oriented record so far.  It’s a Black Mountain pop record, which is to say it’s nothing like pop at all.

The band cites a slew of disparate influences – New Order, King Crimson, Studio 54, Alex Chilton, sunshine, Janis Joplin, Please Kill Me, Shirley Collins, Mickey Newbury, jalapeno salsa, Night of The Hunter, Cactus Taqueria, Funky16Corners podcasts, Dennis Wilson, the house blowing up in the desert at the end of Zabriskie Point – but, as keyboard player Jeremy Schmidt points out, “Who knows how these things connect with the holistic mix of often dissonant forces that become Black Mountain?

Wilderness Heart will be released on September 14th in the US and September 13th in the UK.

Introducing the New Solo Record from S. Carey of Bon Iver, All We Grow

s.carey_cw_011

We are very happy to tell you that on 8/24 (8/30 in the UK), we will be releasing the debut album by S. Carey, All We Grow.  You will recognize Sean as one of the brilliant percussionists for Bon Iver. In the past couple of years he patiently crafted a record in his time off from the band that basically blew our minds and also set the bar really high for vacation productivity.

Peter Wolf Crier play Daytrotter, Announce New Mp3, Tour Dates

pfc5025

Peter Wolf Crier embarks on their first ever U.S. tour starting June 7. In anticipation of the summer tour, Jagjaguwar is proud to release “Hard As Nails”, a new mp3 from Peter Wolf Crier’s new album Inter-Be (out May 25 in the U.S., June 7 in the U.K.). As NPR’s Carrie Brownstein describes it “Hard as Nails centers on a simple and forlorn guitar line, the song building in urgency until it’s finally swallowed by its own fervor. Despite the build-up, the final celebration is more haunted than glorious. It’s a tune played in shadows.” And for an added bonus head over to Daytrotter for a brand new session with Peter Wolf Crier. Tour dates after the jump.

We’re counting down to 4/20, the date on which you can pre-order the GAYNGS debut lp Relayted and receive an instant gratification download of the entire record. In the meantime, GAYNGS leader Ryan Olson released the first single and first photo of the band today on The Fader website.

Download “The Gaudy Side of Town” HERE.

Don’t forget to catch up on all the GAYNGS videos and learn how to throw the proper GAYNGS sign, especially if attending The Last Prom on Earth.

The Last Prom on Earth is not only the title of the last cut on the album, but it is also a musical celebration of Olson’s project. As GAYNG Leader, he’ll be arranging a night of music from Relayted with all players involved with the record. The performance will litterally be the last prom we’ll ever go to, and it’ll be at 1st Avenue in Minneapolis on 5/14. An early, all-ages show will commence at 5pm, and a rowdy (and a scootch more gaudy) version will be at 10pm. The tuxedo joints in The Cities will be hit hard.

GAYNGS Relayted will be released in stores on 5/11 (5/17 in the UK).
