LADYHAWK Spread Their Wings Wide & Tour, Prep EP

As the weather gets warmer and the 2007 touring season kicks into full gear Ladyhawk will be embarking on their biggest tour to date. They begin March 3 on a tour containing sixteen American dates and eleven Canadian dates taking them far and wide across North America. Joining them on this expedition at different points will be the esteemed company of The Constantines, Mary Timony, and Saturday Looks Good To Me. And of course, as with seemingly all March tours, Ladyhawk’s, too, will gravitate towards the Live Music Capital Of The World, and the South By Southwest Music Festival. You can catch Ladyhawk at SXSW at the Jagjaguwar Showcase March 15 at Mohawk (formerly Velvet Spade), and the Chunklet Magazine Party the following day on March 16 at Red Seven. And look for May Dates with Ladyhawk on Tour with Tapes N’ Tapes as well!

New Release from Ladyhawk!
Ladyhawk’s second release, the “Fight For Anarchy” 12-inch, will be released May 22. Ladyhawk know that life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes you get up just to get down again. Sometimes you run just to feel the wind against your face, and sometimes you stand still to watch things crumble around you. Knowing this, Ladyhawk got up – way up – and entered a recording studio for a day-long session between tours in the first half of 2006. Perhaps they then soared too close to the sun, like moths drawn into the flame, only to fly again into the shadows, their wings singed. And then maybe, gathering their burned and broken instruments about them, they limped their way home, rearranging the pieces and sounds haphazardly, letting them all lay as they fell.

The end result is the sound of four brothers breaking something down to create something new, reaching into the fire again. It is a shattering 6-song march called Fight For Anarchy, all unmuzzled and jawing out, nothing edited or expunged. And on it Ladyhawk show that, like Spoon, Dinosaur Jr. or Tom Waits, they have the ability to conjure growls, snarls, and storms of sound into musical lightning, never striking the same place twice.

LADYHAWK Release New MP3

Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes you get up just to get down again. Sometimes you run just to feel the wind against your face, and sometimes you stand still to watch things crumble around you. Vancouver’s Ladyhawk knows this. And they got up – way up – and entered a recording studio for a day-long session between tours last month. Perhaps they soared too close to the sun, like moths drawn into the flame only to fall away again into the shadows, their wings singed. They gathered their burned and broken instruments about them, and limped their way home, rearranging the pieces and sounds haphazardly, letting things lay where they fell along the way. The end result was a 6-song series of songs recorded spontaneously in various states of consciousness. The sound of four brothers breaking something down to create something new, reaching into the fire again. We’ve been calling it the Mushroom Session. The band has yet to officially name it, but we’ve threatened to release it regardless of title. The band has given us their thumbs up to make one of these magical tracks available now as a download.

War

The band is out on the road right now supporting their debut full-length with brethren MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. They’re playing a few weeks together, hitting the West Coast. Then they are on to the American South with The Coke Dares. Don’t miss them when they hit your town.

Also, we’re really stoked about a new homestyle video which landed in our laps like a mysterious space egg. It’s for Ladyhawk’s stellar tune “My Old Jacknife” and definitely inspired us to hit the clubs to shake something last weekend when Ladyhawk was in town. Check it out!

LADYHAWK Release Self-titled CD/LP Debut, Tour With MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO.

LADYHAWK’s pilsner-soaked rock has finally hit the streets in the form of their brand new, self-titled CD/LP. Rockers and dreamers, LADYHAWK are Duffy Driediger (vocals, guitar), Darcy Hancock (lead guitar, vocals), Sean Hawryluk (bass, vocals) and Ryan Peters (drums, vocals) from East Vancouver, British Columbia.
Their JAGJAGUWAR debut readies yet another illustrious chapter in the prolific Vancouver scene that, along with BLACK MOUNTAIN and PINK MOUNTAINTOPS, LADYHAWK are so very much a part of.

LADYHAWK will embark on a massive North American tour in early July with Secretly Canadian pals MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. Having previously met members of MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. during a dark alley run-in on the east side of Vancouver, LADYHAWK is very excited to have them along for the daytime and nighttime hours of their upcoming trek.

LADYHAWK is featured in the newest issue of FADER MAGAZINE. You can download this new issue of FADER right now (for free!) via iTunes.

Pop Matters had this to say about the album:

“Recorded with a rough and unmeditated live sound, the band’s debut is by turns melancholic and boisterous. Singer Duffy Driediger has a memorably weathered voice, rasping with feeling and fraying a little into vibrato at the exuberant choruses. Darcy Hancock, who plays lead guitar, is the other key factor, cranking out the monstrous riffs and squalling waves of feedback that define the album… Fans of new country rockers like Centro-Matic and Oakley Hall will immediately fall into step with LADYHAWK, as will lovers of old-style electric roots outfits like Crazy Horse and Uncle Tupelo.”
