Cave Singers Perform New Song, Head to China

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag75dBObkg4&feature=player_embedded

There is a particular “feel” to the music of Cave Singers. Certain acts have it and when you find one it’s best to hold on tight, because it is a rare talent. There is something in the way Derek’s guitar-picking blends with Pete’s vocals that creates a magic in the air that’s downright palpable. And Marty is so solid on drums and percussion. It’s not easy to find the appropriate fills for music with such a fragile beauty, a heavier hand and it could all go to pot. The above video is brought to us by the fine folks at KEXP and No Depression and was recorded during the No Depression Festival in Seattle just a few weeks ago. It’s a new song still in the works that for the time being is simply known as “new song,” but it sounds mighty heavenly to me. Watch and enjoy friends, there’s more on the way.

In other Cave Singers news, the band is about to embark on a week long tour of China! I for one can’t wait to hear what the Far East thinks of the Northwest’s best and brightest.

ODAWAS Featured On KEXP’s Live From San Francisco Broadcast

Last week, the good people at Seattle’s KEXP made a San Francisco field trip to feature performances and interviews from some of the Bay Area’s finest artists. And Jagjaguwar’s recent Berkeley-via-Chicago transplant ODAWAS were selected to bring their synth spirituals to the KEXP airwaves. The band premiered the live incarnations of two songs from the soon-to-be released THE BLUE DEPTHS, while also dipping deep into its catalogue.

In KEXP’s Live in San Francisco blog, the following kind words were written about Odawas’ performance: “With his guitar speaking heartbreaking volumes of emotion before he even whispers a sound, singer Michael Tapscott is a double headed snake, a precise weapon in two forms. Whereas his guitar is gentle and cautious his voice is chilling and brave. Isaac Edwards is a wizard of electronic sound, presiding over vintage keyboards and eerie waves of movement that wash from one edge of the song into the next leaving the listener feeling refreshed and alive…Stumbling into the opening months of 2009 the Odawas represent the best of what a new year can provide us with: inspiration, hope and joy.”

By going to http://www.kexp.org/streamarchive/streamarchive.asp and entering the time (11 a.m.) and day (Jan. 30) of the program, listeners can enjoy Odawas’ performance and interview for the next couple of weeks.

OKKERVIL RIVER Headline KEXP Holiday Fest; Return From Tour Downunder

With only 4 shows left on their tour of Australia, Okkervil River are almost due back in the States, which will find them headlining KEXP’s 3rd Annual Yule Benefit with THE WRENS, HARVEY DANGER, MARK GARDENER (of RIDE) and THE DIVORCE, in Seattle on Dec. 17. Will Sheff had this to report from downunder:
“The American “Against Doctors’ Orders” tour – which saw me get strep throat and bronchitis and Travis break his wrist – went by in a blur of hydrocodone and steroids and now we’re in Australia. So far it’s been going well. We’ve played packed shows in Melbourne and Brisbane, a two-night stand in Sydney, and an almost deserted stint at a rural casino and sports-bar. We’re ending the tour playing at Australia’s famous celebration of nature and drugs and public nudity, the Meredith Music Festival. After that, we return home and immediately fly to Seattle for KEXP’s two-night Christmas party, where we’re headlining with the Wrens. And then hopefully rest, recuperation, holiday cheer.”
