“Although the album’s influences are easily tracked, it’s far from a case of meritless mimicry. Much as the masters of vintage British folk-rock took musty inspirations and moulded them in the shape of the times they operated in, the London four-piece mix and match ingredients to create sounds that, whilst respectful of what has gone before, are unmistakably rooted in the here and now. The results are frequently mesmerising.” – The Line Of Best Fit
Hello Monday. The Cave Singers treat us to a brand new live session. The band recently stopped into Seattles’ KEXP studios to perform four songs from their album, Naomi. You can stream the full performance above or head to KEXP for individual videos.
“…it [also] feels very free and liberating, and obviously it’s celebratory and sometimes [even] transcendent for me—that happens mostly when [The Cave Singers and the crowd] are sort of in this together, so there’s like this unanimous spirit.” – Peter Quirk on playing live // Filter interview
You can catch the Cave bros live in concert. They’re currently finishing up a run of dates alongside Bleeding Rainbow, with another tour planned for June. See their full schedule HERE.
Happy Monday. Small Black are bringing this week in with a brand new video for their song “Free At Dawn.” Premiering along with an exclusive interview at Interview Magazine, the video was directed by Yoonha Park and inspired by Hollis Frampton’s experimental 1970′s film Zorns Lemma. “Free At Dawn” stands as an ode to Brooklyn, capturing beautiful shots of the city and all on 16mm film.
Small Black’s Limits of Desire is officially out on May 14, but you can pre-order the album now! Head to SC Distribution for the deluxe bundle (pictured below), which includes: the album on both CD and limited-edition white vinyl, 12×12″ print with artist portraits (for the first 200 orders), 17×22″ glossy poster and a digital download code redeemable April 30. The record is also available at iTunes and Amazon!
Lightning Dust are back with their third proper full-length – Fantasy. Set for US release on June 25, the new album marks a sonic turn for the Vancouver duo and ensures you’ll have just the perfect soundtrack for your forthcoming road trip. See exactly what we mean with the first single, “Diamond,” available for streaming above or at Urban Outfitters.
Fantasy came to be after many hours spent in Amber and Josh’s shared recording studio, The Balloon Factory. In that time, the duo took on a new, more-informed sound that still delivers the rich atmosphere we’ve grown to know Lightning Dust for. But who are we to say? Decide for yourself after pre-ordering Fantasy at SC Distribution, iTunes or Amazon. The deluxe bundle, available only at SCD, includes the album on both CD and vinyl, a glossy poster, a limited-edition 7″ and an early download of the album available starting June 11. COOL!
