WATCH // Unknown Mortal Orchestra Performs “Can’t Keep Checking My Phone” On Conan

Last night, Unknown Mortal Orchestra unleashed their most dance floor-ready number, “Can’t Keep Checking My Phone,” on the audience of Conan. The energetic song is off their critically acclaimed new record, Multi-Love, out now on Jagjaguwar. Joining UMO for this performance on bongos are fellow kiwis Connan Mockasin and Paul Roper (Ruban’s former band mate from The Mint Chicks).

“Cancel ALL of your evening plans. Plant yourself in front of your television and prepare yourself for three or so minutes of some serious greatness. It’s definitely going to be worth it!”

Did you heed our advice yesterday? Tell me you didn’t miss Sharon Van Etten’s performance of “Leonard” last night on “mini” Conan! Luckily for all of us, the fine people at Conan have provided us with the video. WATCH IT ABOVE. Also, don’t miss Sharon perched next to Shaq at the end of show! Uhhhh, can we just say how awesome that was?!?!

Last week, Sharon played to over 3,000 SXSW-goers at the NPR showcase then went on to headline the Jagjaguwar party, only to leave Austin soon after for a Los Angeles take down. Perhaps you heard Sharon play on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic Monday morning? If not, no worries! Stream it HERE. As you can tell, it seems there’s no stopping point in sight. Catch her live with The War on Drugs this spring; full list of dates HERE.

Finally, check out the interview Sharon gave to Cian Traynor at The Quietus. Sharon gives a run-down of some of the the pivotal moments in her music career. Read it HERE.

Oh, BLACK MOUNTAIN, Where Do We Begin: UK/European Tour, Bastards of Light “News”, and Conan Redux!

In a desert-state-of-mind, Black Mountain were in top form at Coachella. Was that an even funkier version of Druganaut? No Bright Lights? Or was the desert sun taking us on a trip of our own.

Regardless, the real news here is: a hop, skip and a jump after they ruled at Coachella, Black Mountain begin their UK and European tour tomorrow, including an appearance at the ATP vs. Pitchfork showdown in Camber Sands this upcoming weekend. Among the many other festivals they will be involved in on this leg of their world tour is an appearance on the Mojo Stage of The Great Escape Festival. We are told that Black Mountain fans in the UK and Europe are restlessly awaiting many of these shows, this being the maximal-psych outfit’s first visit to the European continent since their new album “In The Future” was released in January. So get your tickets now. For a comprehensive list of tour dates, please click HERE.

ALSO, the Bastards of Light EP is now available digitally through Itunes:

Originally released as a tour-only 12-inch in the Fall of 2007, the Bastards of Light EP is currently out of print in any physical format. The two songs on the EP, “Bastards of Light” and “Thirteen Walls”, were both recorded in early 2007, during the same sessions that produced “In The Future”. In the UK and Europe, these two songs are being digitally released through Itunes slightly later (05/20/08), with the song “Stormy High” from the “In The Future” full-length being added to them to form what is altogether called the “Stormy High” single.

FINALLY, if you missed it the first time, do not fret. Black Mountain’s live performance of “Stormy High” on the Conan O’Brien show will be aired again on May 26, on your local NBC affiliate in the United States and Canada. And, yes, famed ring announcer Michael Buffer will once again be introducing Black Mountain to the masses. (Because, you know, it’s a re-run.)
