WATCH // Angel Olsen Shares New “Forgiven/Forgotten” Video, New Album Out 2/18/14

Just a few weeks ago we announced Angel Olsen‘s new album Burn Your Fire for No Witness. We also shared new song “Forgiven/Forgotten” which garnered Pitchfork‘s “Best New Track” status and had Fader saying Angel “has gone ahead and plugged in, with a full rock band sound that seems like it’s rearing to overwhelm everything in its path”.

Today we are excited to premiere the first video from the new album for the track “Forgiven/Forgotten”. Directed by longtime Angel collaborator, Zia Anger, and shot on 16mm, the visual shows Angel in enchanted suburbia with a mate who may no longer be in the picture, literally. Watch the video above or on YouTube/Vevo.

ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Angel Olsen Announces New Album ‘Burn Your Fire for No Witness’ Due February 18th, 2014

Recent Jagjaguwar signee Angel Olsen is no stranger to listeners who caught her vibrant and expressive voice in her debut EP Strange Cacti or later on Half Way Home (Bathetic), where her sound expanded and her lyrics cut deeper.

Now, Angel offers a new full length album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness out February 18th, 2014 where she further explores a sound familiar, but only widens her vocal range to new expressive heights. She captures both bravery and vulnerability in her war cries bringing the listener closer if they aren’t already sucked into Angel’s crackling fire gaze. Her new album, produced by John Congleton, stokes the fire and aggravates the flames inside of Angel releasing an energy and voice not heard before.

Get a sense of this new sound by listening to “Forgiven/Forgotten” above or on Soundcloud here.

Pre-order Angel’s new album Burn Your Fire for No Witness via Amazon, iTunes, your local record store, or SC Distribution.

LSTN // Angel Olsen Live at WNYC’s Soundcheck

We’re all human. It’s hard for us to find stuff to agree on. The new Angel Olsen session and interview up at WNYC’s Soundcheck does not fall into this category. In fact, this performance is so darn good it’ll make you want to go out and buy an ice cream cone for your neighbor. Listen to “Always Half Strange,” “Some Things Cosmic,” and “Lonely Universe” first, though.

Now that you’ve had your listening fun, go see Angel live! Our strange darling is playing Pitchfork, End of the Road, and Hopscotch festivals this summer. She will also perform at London’s Bush Hall and Chicago’s Lincoln Hall. Dates and links available HERE.

Artist Signing // Angel Olsen Joins Jagjaguwar Family

It is a special kind of day when you get to announce the signing of an artist as talented and all-consuming as Angel Olsen. Her voice is an incredibly strange, yet warmly inviting instrument always positioned at the forefront of her songs. The St. Louis raised, now Chicago-based singer began experimenting with her voice at a young age, recording tapes and then teaching herself to harmonize with those recordings. That process — of listening and recording and listening and recording — has imbued her music with a confidence and wisdom that extends as much to her arrangements as to the voice that defines her music.

And it’s little surprise, then, that her work is inspired by what she describes as “being home, feeling home within yourself. Simple things like homes and existence and death and birth.” Her music is defined by many of the same signposts by which folk music first defined itself — resonant images, bold voices, deeply human tones. And so Olsen is, to turn a phrase, bringing it all back home.

Enough with the words! With all of this, it’s best you just hear what exactly we are talking about. Watch Angel perform “Miranda” live at Grand Street Bakery – video below. You’ll also find Angel’s forthcoming tour dates listed at the end of the post. Read the rest of this entry »
