WATCH // S. Carey Shares ‘Supermoon’ EPK Via Outside Magazine, New EP Out Feb. 17, April Dates Added To Living Room Tour

S. Carey debuted the EPK for his upcoming Supermoon EP today via Outside Magazine premiere. The video – gorgeously shot primarily in the Wisconsin wilderness – provides a further window into the musical inspiration that Carey finds in nature and family. The Supermoon EP offers reimagined versions of the Eau Claire-native singer/songwriter and Bon Iver-multi-instrumentalist’s two full-lengths, 2010’s All We Grow and 2014’s Range of Light, alongside the title track new song and a Radiohead cover. Go behind the scenes with a special EPK directed by Dan Huiting you can watch above or on YouTube.

Pre-order the EP via SC Distribution, iTunes, and Amazon.

The Supermoon EP, recorded during August 2014’s perigee-syzygy (a/k/a super moon), is a study in scale, space, and proximity. With the songs pared down to essential, acoustic parts, their beauty, intimacy, and potently personal nature are allowed to shine through in new and distinctive ways. Carey’s gentle, evocative vocals glide atop lilting yet percussive piano and subtle harmonic strings; his breath between words and the pat of his fingers on his family’s baby grand keys have been left audible. Inspired by nature, as with much of his work, and the excitement of on the spot song arrangements for various sessions while on tour, the Supermoon EP was laid to tape with the help of longtime friends and collaborators Zach Hanson (who engineered, mixed, and mastered) and Mike Noyce (who played viola). The EP is captivating and understated, adding a new chapter to the still-unfolding story of Sean Carey as an artist.

Carey has added April dates to his upcoming living room tour, presented by Undertow Music Collective. This series of shows will showcase the stripped-down artistry of the Supermoon EP and begin on February 5th in Des Moines, IA.

S. Carey and Peter Wolf Crier Play Next Week at FRZN Fest

Sean Carey has been mighty busy touring every which way with Bon Iver, but he’s taking a pause to play a set at this year’s FRZN Fest in Madison, WI. Peter Wolf Crier will also be playing the festival, coming off the heels of some heavy touring toward the end of 2011 and the release of their last album, Garden of Arms. Catch both of these wonderful artists and more at the festival on Sat, Jan 14. They’ll be playing at 8pm at the High Noon Saloon (701 E. Washington Ave. Madison, WI). The show is only $12 (or $15-20 if you want to stick around for both nights of the festival).

S. Carey Plots May West Coast Tour

SCarey4Photo via Muzzle of Bees

If the West Coast is indeed the best coast, then things just got a lot sweeter for our neighbors to the left. Luckily for those of us in Bloomington, the benefits of having S. Carey on Jagjaguwar means a stop in the Midwest.

When Sean Carey last played California while on tour with The Tallest Man on Earth, they performed a magnificently cozy session with Yours Truly. Check it.

Mark those fresh 2011 calendars for your first anticipated summer tour!

Gather ’round for the S. Carey Yours Truly Session

Picture 10

This cozy, convivial S. Carey performance Yours Truly captured marks a foretelling of the December tour. Good times & great music. What more could you ask for?

In My Room: S Carey “In the Dirt” from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

As the YT post narrates the inviting scene….

Though there was no hot chocolate simmering on the stove and no fireside chatter floating about, the room felt just as cozy as an Eau Claire cabin in the winter, as S. Carey played a special show for us all. As the evening progressed, wine started to flow a bit more, the room became livelier, and the band started to pick up the pace. It ended up being quite the party, capped off with album highlight, “In The Dirt.”

Shots from the video and December tour dates, post-jump! Also thought I should mention your last chance to take advantage of Amazon’s November digital deal: mp3 format of All We Grow is available for $5!
