Lia Ices Delivers a Beautiful New Video and Covers Pink Floyd

Lia Ices Official “Little Marriage” Video from Secretly Jag on Vimeo.

Two awesome pieces from Lia Ices today! Premiering on Fader earlier this morning, the new video for “Little Marriage” is a whimsical dance through a bevy of faded images. Heidi Petty created the video.

Out on April 4th, the “Wish You Were Here” single is both a moving and refreshing take on one of Pink Floyd’s best known songs. Lia originally recorded the track for Mojo Magazine’s Pink Floyd tribute compilation. The 7-inch also features Lia’s take on Syd Barret’s “Late Night.” You can listen to “Wish You Were Here” below!

Watch A Beautiful Lia Ices Live Version of “Daphne”

Lia Ices performed with her band in the UK at the Green Man Festival back in August, and they recorded a “Green Man Session” of her song “Daphne” that will really blow your socks off. The accompaniment is scaled back, letting Lia’s voice become the main instrument on stage. Lia Ices’s album Grown Unknown was named by Boston Globe‘s James Reed as his 9th favorite record of the year.

Lia Ices Pairs with IFC for a “Love Is Won” Video Contest

We are very happy to announce that Lia Ices/Jagjaguwar are pairing with IFC to announce a video contest surrounding her song “Love Is Won.” Lia’s video was shot by herself on Super 8 film while on vacation in Rome with her partner. It’s an intimate look at two people in love, and we thought it would be great to see other video directors interpret their own love stories.

We are inviting all filmmakers, artists, novices, experts, etc. to contribute their own video set to “Love Is Won.”

To take part in Lia Ices’ “Love Is Won” contest, send your video love stories to press@jagjaguwar.com. Apart from that, here’s a few key details you need to know:

•Use Lia Ices “Love Is Won” as your soundtrack (download below).
•Partial and full-length videos are eligible, the submission need not be the full 5:23 of the song.
•Videos should be submitted by noon on November 15th.
•All videos submitted will be posted on Jagjaguwar.com
•A winner chosen by IFC and Lia Ices will debut on IFC.com on November 21st.

Lia Ices On So You Think You Can Dance

The music of Lia Ices has been used for several contemporary dances, and the acclaimed dance competition So You Think You Can Dance used Lia’s song “Grown Unknown” for the opening number of their second-to-final show of this year’s season.

The Wall Street Journal wrote:

“Grown Unknown” by Lia Ices is the song for the opening group dance. There’s a lot of clapping for rhythm, a big red rose in the middle and all the dancers are in white. It’s very pretty. And cool music. The rose ascends to heaven at the end and confetti falls to the stage. This might be the first time all season I run to iTunes to buy a song I heard on this show.”

New Video from Lia Ices for “Grown Unknown”

Today in an exclusive premiere with Pitchfork TV, we are pleased to present the music video for the title song of Lia Ices’ tremendous Jagjaguwar debut album, Grown Unknown.

Lia Ices’ video for “Grown Unknown” is a visual performance diary documenting modern dancer Ruby MacDougall’s three week voyage across the Pacific from Long Beach, California to Shanghai, China. The song “Grown Unknown” is about resisting our tendency to control and confine our desires; it celebrates the discovery of a personal unknown. Ruby’s dance document aligns with Lia’s song in a most poignant way: confined to a ship in the middle of the massive ocean, she uses dance as a means to express herself amidst extreme newness. For when we surrender to our wild, untamed energies and venture into the unknown, we expose ourselves to personal revelation. The opening lines of the song set the stage for Ruby’s exploratory dance: “I can’t live on a solitary stem, when there’s open land and warm wind.” The footage was shot from a laptop camera, and edited by Joanna Bovay (who also edited Lia’s video for “Half Life”).

Lia Ices will perform at Lollapalooza in August with select dates in Toronto, Pittsburgh and New York. Set time for Lollapalooza will be announced shortly. For lineup and more info, visit the Lolla site here.

Brian Williams Interview with Lia Ices

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Brian Williams, or BriWi, as his friends call him (moiself included), is America’s Greatest News Anchor. He’s recently brought us stories of Brooklyn Artisanal Cheese and Slow Jammed the news along with Jimmy Fallon on Late Night. I kinda knew he was into indie rock, but I never knew how hard he was going to rep for Lia Ices.

BriWi loves Lia Ices, particularly the song “Little Marriage.” He met up with her recently at the Rare Book Room studio to play a little and have a chat. The love is palpable. Check out the clip above, or watch the full thing here at MSNBC.com.

New Lia Ices Video for “Daphne” !

Lia Ices’ “Daphne,” directed by L.A.-based director Aaron Brown (Focus Creeps) was shot in Sonoma, California. Opening in a lush, mysterious, pastoral setting, Lia is joined by a falcon and a young boy.  At first the three remain separate yet appear unified in some undisclosed way, with Lia at the center and the bird and the child acting as extensions of her. The song is Lia’s personal reflection of the ancient myth of Daphne, describing one woman’s transformation into a tree. It is a story that challenges our concepts of flight and attachment, transformation and rootedness, desire and captivity.

It was important for Aaron and Lia that these images and themes be revealed symbolically like a myth or a fairy tale. The video goes from a supernatural, sylvan world and spirals into a Fellini-esque nighttime revelry. The young boy is the unexpected master of ceremonies at an unconventional gathering of friends and animals who all evoke the approaching event.  Abstracted by super 8 footage, Lia reveals herself as the empowered and expressive storyteller, until she, like Daphne makes her final transformation.

“Daphne” is from the recent Jagjaguwar release by Lia Ices, Grown Unknown, and features a duet with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

Starting next week, Lia Ices will begin performing a short European tour that includes La Route du Rock’s Winter Collection on Thursday, February 17th. That evening’s lineup includes Glasser and Pitchfork-favorite James Blake! Basically my dream show, happening in France, thousands of miles away.  Click here to check out the tour dates.
