Once You Go Small Black, You Never Go Back

You know that feeling of being blindsided after listening to a band you’ve never heard before? When it scratches an itch you didn’t even know you had? Well, we certainly do.

It happened late last summer when we came across “Despicable Dogs” by Small Black. It became something of a late summer anthem for a few of us here in the Jagjaguwar offices. Soon after hearing the song, we went and picked up the Small Black EP that the band had self released on their own CassClub. Needless to say, we were just as mesmerized with the rest of the EP as we were with “Despicable Dogs.” It didn’t take us long before we got all Veruca Salt and just had to have an Oompa Loompa work with Small Black. Thankfully for us, the band was into that idea as well.

So here we are. A few months later and we’ve officially welcomed Small Black to the Jagjaguwar family. We’ll be releasing a remixed, remastered and expanded version of the Small Black EP that features two new songs, “Kings of Animals” and “Baby Bird Pt. 2,” on April 27th in the US and a day earlier for our UK friends.

We got to see the guys over the weekend at Chuckee Cheese Brooklyn Bowl and here a few photos taken with a phone.
