JAGJAGUWAR -

The further adventures of PINK MOUNTAINTOPS and BLACK MOUNTAIN

PINK MOUNTAINTOPS end U.S. tour with two night stand with FLAMING LIPS; BLACK MOUNTAIN currently recording follow-up to self-titled debut; various other recordings and performances in sight.

Everyone’s favorite duality from Vancouver, British Columbia – BLACK MOUNTAIN and its more luscious counterpart PINK MOUNTAINTOPS – is extremely busy these days. First off, the new Pink Mountaintops full-length release “Axis of Evol” has just come out of the gates, and the early word on the street is that it is one for the ages. According to Uncut Magazine, who gave it 4 out of 5 stars, “If Black Mountain was the party and the first Pink Mountaintops album was the sex, ‘Axis of Evol’ is the comedown: disturbing, sticky, painful, but absolutely vital.” It appears that an accidental but beautiful dialectic is emerging. And it only gets better soon. To possibly one-up its own posse, Black Mountain are currently finishing up recordings for their second full-length record. It is as-yet-untitled and will come out on Jagjaguwar sometime in 2007, with crowd favorites like “Tyrants” and “Queens Will Play” most likely making the cut. To the uninitiated, Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops are completely different bands with some shared members, both of which feature the incomparable and prolific songwriting of Stephen McBean.

Live-performance-side-of-things, Pink Mountaintops have just completed a whirlwind U.S. tour, including numerous and mesmerizing performances at SXSW. By all measures, the tour has been extremely successful and it ends with a bang, with a two night stand with FLAMING LIPS at Webster Hall in New York City, on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1. Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips is a fan of both Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops, making numerous remarks to that effect in both the national and international press over the last year. Also, both Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops will shortly embark on an extensive European tour along with BLOOD MERIDIAN (Black Mountain member Matt Camarind’s more countrified outfit that has recently agreed to work with V2 in the United States). On part of this jaunt, Black Mountain will be performing on the Mudhoney-curated night of the 2006 All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival, which we hear has been sold-out for some time. And finally, U.S. tourdates for Pink Mountaintops are now available. Secretly Canadian artists, CATFISH HAVEN are rumored to be joining Pink Mountaintops on this leg of their tour.

Finally, for those Black Mountain fans that have been starving for new material, three new releases are on the horizon. First, a previously unreleased Black Mountain song called “Behind the Fall” will grace a compilation titled “Invaders”, to come out in the next month or so on Kemado Records. Secondly, a limited edition seven-inch of two new songs by Black Mountain, “Stormy High” and “Voices”, will be coming out as part of the Suicide Squeeze 2006 single series on May 9, 2006. And, quite possibly in time for their European tour, a special 12-inch featuring an UNKLE remix of “No Hits” (as well as the proper version of “No Hits”) will be released in Europe on City Slang records and may leak into the United States and Canada through our friends at SC Distribution.
