ANGEL OLSEN

Very often, the move from containment to connection is a difficult one. After all, there's a lot at stake – one's sense of self, most importantly – but sometimes, it comes naturally and easily. For Missouri-born, singer-songwriter and guitarist Angel Olsen, the recording of her second album was a relaxed and enjoyable process, despite the fact that she was working on her own, highly personal material in creative collaboration for the first time, with musicians she'd been playing with for barely six months. That the three are now a band proper says much about not only their talent, but also the singer's desire to push her extraordinarily compelling songs into new territory and watch them develop.

LISTEN // WSJ Speakeasy Premieres Angel Olsen’s Second Single “Hi-Five”, New Album Out February 18th

Earlier today WSJ Speakeasy premiered a new singleHi-Five” by Angel Olsen from her upcoming release, Burn Your Fire for No Witness. On the track, Angel explained, “To lay it out simply: ‘Hi-Five’ could very well be a song about acquiring a little belief, a little trust, despite a lonely attitude. In fact, we are all lonely sometimes — it’s not unnatural, it’s not unfamiliar, it’s not a pity. Sometimes it’s good to remind a friend of that.” With those thoughts in mind listen to the second single above with visuals by constant collaborator Zia Anger or on our Soundcloud / YouTube channel.

WATCH // Angel Olsen Shares New “Forgiven/Forgotten” Video, New Album Out 2/18/14

Just a few weeks ago we announced Angel Olsen‘s new album Burn Your Fire for No Witness. We also shared new song “Forgiven/Forgotten” which garnered Pitchfork‘s “Best New Track” status and had Fader saying Angel “has gone ahead and plugged in, with a full rock band sound that seems like it’s rearing to overwhelm everything in its path”.

Today we are excited to premiere the first video from the new album for the track “Forgiven/Forgotten”. Directed by longtime Angel collaborator, Zia Anger, and shot on 16mm, the visual shows Angel in enchanted suburbia with a mate who may no longer be in the picture, literally. Watch the video above or on YouTube/Vevo.

ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Angel Olsen Announces New Album ‘Burn Your Fire for No Witness’ Due February 18th, 2014

Recent Jagjaguwar signee Angel Olsen is no stranger to listeners who caught her vibrant and expressive voice in her debut EP Strange Cacti or later on Half Way Home (Bathetic), where her sound expanded and her lyrics cut deeper.

Now, Angel offers a new full length album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness out February 18th, 2014 where she further explores a sound familiar, but only widens her vocal range to new expressive heights. She captures both bravery and vulnerability in her war cries bringing the listener closer if they aren’t already sucked into Angel’s crackling fire gaze. Her new album, produced by John Congleton, stokes the fire and aggravates the flames inside of Angel releasing an energy and voice not heard before.
