GAYNGS

When Ryan Olson decided to make a record with Solid Gold members Zack Coulter and Adam Hurlburt, it was clear to them what the result would be: a collection of drugged-up keyboards and slick bedroom production almost exclusively inspired by 10cc's "I'm Not In Love." To be fair, they weren't entirely off. What they didn't know was that it would spiral into a project of epic proportions, enlisting the talents of over 25 musicians from various scenes around the country, relocating the base of operations from Olson's Minneapolis bedroom/studio to the Wisconsin-based studio April Base, and the genesis of a musical family, GAYNGS.

GAYNGS’ Stef Needs a New Kidney, Here’s How You Can Help!

Stef (P.O.S. of Doomtree, GAYNGS) needs your help! Last month, he announced he would not continue with plans to go on tour because an ongoing condition with his kidneys had worsened and the next step is a kidney transplant. The good news: Stef’s found several strong candidates for a kidney donation! Medical bills add up, though, which is why Doomtree has started an online fundraiser to help him tackle these expenses so he can focus on getting better. Donated funds will go help pay medical bills, prescription costs and to cover living expenses during recovery. Any amount helps. Let’s get Stef back to where he belongs – healthy and making music! DONATE HERE!

Bon Iver, Bushmills, and POLICA

Bon Iver is participating in the Bushmills “Since Way Back” promotion, which “celebrates the lives and brotherly relationships of artists and influencers across the world, and collaborates with each to produce creative, inspired content that reflects each of his passions.” There are painted billboards and printed ads featuring Justin Vernon, manager Nate Vernon, manager Kyle Frenette and Audio Engineer Brian Joseph. Justin and Nate’s father said in a statement via facebook status, “I’ve raised my boys to enjoy the finer things in life: whiskey among friends.” Our favorite part?  Justin is wearing a Jagjaguwar shirt in the photos. He interviewed at GQ, saying “we’re enjoying the shit out of it.”

Dan Huiting of MPLS.tv filmed the Bushmills after party of Bon Iver’s last show in Boston. The campaign gets a much-needed shot of estrogen with use of incredible new music by POLICA – the new musical project by Channy from GAYNGS. At the POLICA site you can hear “Dark Star” as well as “Lay Your Cards Out” featuring Bon Iver’s Mike Noyce.

GAYNGS Remixes Gardens & Villa’s “Orange Blossom”

Secretly Canadian’s Gardens & Villa got the royal remix treatment by Ryan Olson’s GAYNGS, and the results are tremendous. Olson was recording at Jim Eno’s studio in Austin just as G&V were traispsing through town. The song “Orange Blossom” called to Mr. Gayngs, and after what I can only imagine was a liquor-soaked Austin, Texas bro-down, the remix-level friendship was forged. Altered Zones said that it turns off the lights and fills the room with the irresistible musk of desire! Holy shit, that is scandalous!
