FOXYGEN

Foxygen and Star Power is the Los Angeles songwriting duo of 24-year-olds Sam France and Jonathan Rado. In May 2011, France and Rado nervously handed off a CD-R of this homemade mini-opus Take the Kids Off Broadway (Jagjaguwar, 2012) to producer and visionary Richard Swift after his performance in a Lower East Side club. The duo, who had just mixed and burned the disc that very night, had been devotees of Swift's outsider-pop oeuvre since high school, when they first began recording their own pubescent forays into oddball rock n' roll (At least a dozen records were finished before they graduated high school).

ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Foxygen Announces New Album ‘…And Star Power’ Out 10/14, Shares “How Can You Really” Video Dir. By Grant Singer, On Tour Now

From the band -

Foxygen have joined Star Power. It is a punk band, and you can be in it, too. Star Power is the radio station that you can hear only if you believe. A gaggle of guest stars. Roman-numeraled musical suites. Vocals recorded on a shoddy tape machine at The Beverly Hills Hotel and Chateau Marmont. A svelte 82-minute run time of psych-ward folk, cartoon fantasia, soft-rock indulgences, D&D doomrock and paranoid bathroom rompers. A cinematic auditory adventure for speedy freaks, skull krunchers, abductees and misfits. We’re all stars of the scene.

Ladies & Gentleman, Foxygen is back with their third release …And Star Power, out Oct. 14th (13th in Europe) via Jagjaguwar. The followup to We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic is a 24-song epic journey that picks up right where members Sam France and Jonathan Rado left off. Catch the video for the debut single “How Can You Really“, starring France as he harnesses the power of rock-gods before him. Bonus points for those who spot the cameos from members of Gardens & Villa and Dub Thompson, the latter supporting Foxygen on their upcoming North American tour. Directed by Grant Singer, watch the video above or on Youtube / Vevo.

WATCH // Foxygen Releases Official Video For “21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic”

The title song from Foxygen‘s debut album We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, gets a psychedelic and trippy visual from director William Doyle of Neighborhood Watch Films. Watch the video above or HERE on YouTube to see singer Sam France running around Calvary Cemetery in Queens summoning the spirits just as he does on stage.

That same stage energy ended the band’s summer tour a bit early when Sam had an accident at First Avenue in Minneapolis in July. Doctors confirmed he completely fractured his tibia and fibula and underwent reconstructive surgery.

However, they said they are confident he will be able to perform in time for Austin City Limits and Foxygen‘s October dates in New York City All fall tour dates preceding ACL have been cancelled. Read more to see those dates and the band’s performance of “Make It Known” at Pitchfork Music Festival this past summer below.
