THE CAVE SINGERS

The Cave Singers Premiere “Black Leaf” Video

Today, Pitchfork.tv premiered The Cave Singers’ whimsical and lovely video for “Black Leaf,” the latest singe from their Jagjaguwar debut No Witch. In the video, we follow three young heroes on a day’s adventure across their wintery, lakeside town that eventually leads them into a monster’s lair.

Along the way, they discover the body of a dead owl. It’s detailed wings had us wondering whether or not the owl was a prop or a truly dead animal. We talked to the director Sam Macon to get the answer:

“It’s totally real. The mother of the main kid in the video found it on the side of the road in montana. She’s a filmmaker, fabricator, artist and organic farmer. I collaborated with her on the construction of the monster, and as we were working on the thing she mentioned, “Oh, I have a great horned owl in the freezer. Should I bring that?” I said, “Sure.” The kids really reacted to it in a heavy, beautiful way i think. For any animal rights concerns, it was obviously not killed for the purpose of the video, and was treated with the utmost respect.”

The Cave Singers began their tour with Seattle folk brethren Fleet Foxes over the weekend. This is a not-to-be-missed concert experience. See all the dates HERE.

The Cave Singers Tour with Fleet Foxes Starts Tonight!

The Cave Singers start their tour with Fleet Foxes tonight at The Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, BC. We thought we’d celebrate this magical pairing of two of Seattle’s finest bands with a nice live video of The Cave Singers courtesy of another Seattle institution, the wonderful KEXP. Above The Cave Singers perform “Clever Creatures” from their new album No Witch. You can see more video from this session on KEXP’s website HERE, and check out The Cave Singers full list of tour dates HERE.

The Cave Singers Tour with Fleet Foxes. Play Newport Folk Festival.

On the heels of The Cave Singers’ fevered, inspired run at SXSW, we are honored to announce that the band will join their Seattle bretheren Fleet Foxes on a full U.S. tour in May. A true coalesence of modern, left-of-center folk songcraft, the tour is sure to be one of the premiere bills for the genre in 2011. Post-Fleet Foxes, The Cave Singers head to Europe for select dates, before returning to America for more Midwestern dates, some scheduled and more to follow. July 30-31 you’ll find The Cave Singers performing at the historic Newport Folk Festival, and August finds the band back in Europe for dates at the Beacons and Greenman festivals.
